All these news reports about 'Motown Legend' Aretha Franklin.

She never actually released anything on the Motown label. Atlantic, Columbia, Chess... Yes, but not Motown

Franklin was a supporter and activist for the Civil Rights in 60's America.... she fought for racial and gender equality through her songs... sung at Obama's inauguaration ... and even used to arm wrsetle the grand cyclops of the KKK on weds afternoons... so of course she was a political figure to a lot of Americans...

Can't just let it be about her and her work. Have to make political capital out of it. Those people have no shame. Even her family, who presumably allowed that tone to be set.

Did you see John McCains funeral today? some people made capital out of this one too, from McCains daughter to George Bush Obama too, a bigger swipe was taken at Trump than at Aretha Franklins funeral are they ' those'.people too?
It is not political to ask for respect Nurse it is human.

"Like you can say Muhammed Ali was more than a boxer "

Without wanting to start a new thread on the matter, I was always a little wondrous as to why the descendant of a race brought to America as slaves chose a name, and to follow the religion, of a people who, long before white man turned up with his big bad ships, were enslaving and trading in his people.

Is it 'cos dey iz less white, innit?

Some white people just don't get fuck all, and probably never ever will.

If you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”

I imagine most of that is to do with her involvement in and support of the civil rights movement

Like you can say Muhammed Ali was more than a boxer

Former Beatle Paul McCartney said on Twitter: "Let's all take a moment to give thanks for the beautiful life of Aretha Franklin, the Queen of our souls, who inspired us all for many many years."
Queen of our souls really.Who was this woman?
Franklin continued to release music, scoring a hit in the 1980s with a version of The Rolling Stones' Jumpin' Jack Flash. We know from Ameican Pie that Jack was the devil 'cause fire is the devils only friend'

Aretha's grand ceremony didn't end with her queen-like arrival. Her body rests in a 14-karat gold-plated Promethean casket, which has a champagne velvet interior. It also has “Queen of Soul,” and “Aretha Franklin,” embroidered in the casket lining. As for her day-one viewing outfit, Aretha was dressed in head-to-toe red — including, a ruby red dress, custom red earrings, bright red nails and lipstick, and, of course, 5-in, red Christian Louboutin pumps.
The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll and the Queen of Soul are united in death even as they were joined in superstardom in life.

Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin Both Died on August 16 – Long Live the King and Queen
Aretha Franklin died in Detroit at age 76 on Thursday — 41 years to the day that Elvis Presley succumbed to a heart attack at his Memphis estate Graceland in 1977 at age 43.

Re: Aretha Franklin - Motown Legend
No disrespect intended but I keep hearing on the News that she was so much more than an entertainer and singer.

I'm struggling.

I’d say it’s fair to say that they were not there for selfish reasons.

Ok Picks we'll do it your way. All those in attendance were there because they were so moved by the life and struggles of the singer.

H&P

Pity much of this 'coming together' wasnt about the lady herself, more of a self serving 'oh look at me' excersise.

Coming together to honour and celebrate someone like Aretha Franklin is an uplifting experience for anyone motivated to participate. Didn’t watch a moment of it myself but I for one am happy people come together on an occasion like this.
